Batman Begins
No words can describe my love for this movie. Well, maybe this post.
The Dark Knight returns! Or rather has arrived! Tim Burton's version was, well his own vision. Joel Schumacher's crap. Finally! This is how The Batman movie should be.
Everyone knows the story: As a young child, Bruce Wayne witness the murder of parents. Ever since then, he has sworn an oath. An oath to fight crime as the Batman.
Ok, that was pretty quick. I won't go into too much details, I think it would spoil the fun. But how did he became who he is? This movie tells how billionaire Bruce Wayne trained himself to be the epitome of peak human conditioning.
Though the story may seem like it's dragging, but there are enough things happening to make it interesting. I don't think there are any scenes that are pointless and a waste of time. Props to David Goyer to manage to write scenes that are similar to the comic "Batman: Year One".
Acting: Christian Bale IS Bruce Wayne and Batman. Unlike the others, I always thought Michael Keaton fits the role of Batman, but he just couldn't pull off as Bruce Wayne. He just doesn't have that billionaire playboy look. As for Val Kilmer, he has that billionaire playboy look, but he's not a convincing Batman. George Clooney? He should stick to TV series.
While in costume, Bale manage to disguise his voice with an intimidating tone to it. The rest of the cast: What do you expect from Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman, Michael Caine and Liam Neeson? Ken Watanabe and Katie Holmes did not do much though.
Props and settings are pretty good. Gotham City looks real. Rest assured there are no over the top gothic, giant statues or neon clubbing lights. The Bat costume, though still looks rubbery, at least it doesn't have nipples. The Batmobile's design though make sense for an all purpose vehicle, it is chunky. I had mixed feelings when I first saw the design. Granted it's a "prototype", but after seeing how much destruction and stuff that it manage to pull off; it's cool.
Soundtrack is dark and brooding. Love it. Must hunt down the CD.
The fighting scenes: Read some reviews complaining that it is too up close and personal, a way used by the director to cheat and hide the ability of the actors to perform martial arts move. But I thought it was fitting for this movie. When you are alone againts many people, you have to finish the fight fast and brutal. They manage to instill that fear, before Batman attacks. It's like the Predator or Alien lurking around... only this time, it's the good guy!
Minor stuff that I love em to bits:
1) Not really minor but Bale is Bruce Wayne/Batman.
2) Gary Oldman looks alot like Gordon in "Batman: Year One".
3) Other comic characters that are minor characters in the movie. Easter eggs for the comic fans.
4) A mention of other fighting styles that Bruce knows.
5) The bats.
6) The twist.
7) The ending. Oh, boy!
Two thumbs up! Can't wait to watch it again.
"Does it come in black?"
