Watching Samurai Jack With Dad

On Wednesday night, was channel surfing and flipped to Cartoon Network. It was showing Teen Titans. Though a quite entertaining cartoon done in a very anime style, I haven't been following it.

It was almost over. Then came Samurai Jack. Samurai Jack, tells the story of Jack, whose land was conquered by a magical evil beast called Aku. Jack, little boy and was sent away to various lands to train the mind and body. He returned to his land (adult now) with a magical katana to fight Aku.

He beat Aku, but before he could deliver the finishing blow, Aku summoned a time portal and sent Jack into the future. A future ruled by Aku. So, Jack desperately tries to find a way back to the past to undo the future.

That's the premise of the series. I've only watched the first two episodes, and occasionally while channel surfing and nothing to do, and when chance permits, I would watch it. Never got into it.

Anyway, Dad sat down and watch it with me. This week's episode had Aku summon Demongo, a soul collector to fight Jack. Demongo collects the souls of the universe's greatest warriors and he is able to use their essence to fight for him. Still they were no match for Jack.

Dad thought it's an anime, a Japanese cartoon. Hmmm didn't he realise they are speaking English? Though the art style is pretty simple and your standard new Cartoon Network cartoon style (example: Power Puff Girls). It's kinda violent. But, violent without blood. Enemies decapitated, cut in half, sliced and diced... still, no blood. Dad was complaining: "Boh huek eh?" (Hokkien: No Blood One?)

OF course being a cartoon, it has its characters do super jumps, Jack batting shurikens back at his enemy and stuff. Dad was going: "Hao siao." (Hokkien: Bullshit)

Can't watch cartoons with Dad. He goes into bitchy mode. Though he's bitchy, but he sat through the whole half hour of it. Weird. I think he enjoyed it.
