Madagascar

Went to Saw it last Sunday with The Horror Movie Gang and plus one more, "horror movies are not mah thang" M. :P

I think I"ll just let Yahoo! Movie sum it up for me:

This movie on focuses four residents and "stars" of the Central Park Zoo in New York City who are also best friends: a lion (Stiller), a zebra (Rock), a giraffe (Schwimmer) and a pregnant hippo (Smith). When one of them goes missing, the other three break out of the zoo looking for him, and eventually all four are captured and put in boxes to ship them back to the continent their species are originally from: Africa. An accident at sea, however, strands them on the shore of Madagascar. Having had humans take care of them their entire life, the four know nothing of surviving in the wild. Exploring their surroundings, the four friends soon meet the Malagasy locals and their carnivorous enemies, the fousas. As the two sides try to use these four new, strange (and large) friends to their benefit, our heroes are also confronted with the reality of their predestined roles in nature.

Edited, so it won't spoil the movie.

The CG's nice. Lots of bright colours to attract kids' attention. But is it really a kids' movie? It was rated PG (Parental Guidence) though.

I realised that kids were laughing mostly on the slapstick parts like, one of the characters fell down, spitted, clock stuck on head, etc. Most of the jokes or comedic moments lies in the conversations. It's more of a sitcom. Hence, David Schwimmer I guess. It was funny. But I dunno. I noticed I laughed at scenes when the audience were mostly dead quiet.

The characters were pretty lovable. My favourites are Alex the Lion, Melman the Giraffe and the monkeys. The penguins? They were okay.

The soundtrack's pretty good but I got annoyed with the "I like to move it" song. Unfortunately, it's like the main theme song of the movie, as they even played it at the end.

They manage to sneaked in some spoofs from other shows/movies. Like Planet of the Apes, The Mission and National Geographic. Probably not many younger generation people would noticed it except National Geographic Special.

The verdict? It's okay. Definitely a rental.

"Of course we are going to fling poop at him."
