Magazine Shops
I love going to a magazine shop. Even if I'm not getting anything from there. If I walk past one, if I'm not in a hurry, I would usually stop by and have a look.
I would browse all the shelves/racks that they have there. That's what I did during lunch when I was still working at one of the Big Green Dude's outlet. They have quite a number of magazine shops nearby. And that's when I first dicovered AniWave, a HK anime magazine.
Due to the work load, I would go out for lunch at odd hours and usually alone. And most of the time I would finish my food quite early and ended up with 40 minutes left of my lunch break. That's when I would dropby a magazines shop(s) to browse around.
Usually I would Byrne-steal same game/entertainment/movie mags. Luckily the shop owners didn't mind. I guess it just depends on how you do it. What do I mean by Byrne-stealing? Byrne, referring to John Byrne... a famous comic writer and artist. He considers flipping through a book/comic at the newsstands or a shop as stealing. Hence, us wacky posters of the Spider-Man Messageboard at comicboards.com coined flipping through as "Byrne-stealing".
Aah, good times.
Some of the overseas mags can cost quite a lot. For example, if memory serves. Starburst is around RM 40+. No really a big surprise for me, since I at times would buy (depending on the freebies) Newtype and Animage, in which both might cost RM 35+ each. :P
It seems like magazine shops are mushrooming everywhere. Can one really make a profit out of it? Then there are those who specialises in selling back issues. It just makes me wonder.
