Spartan: Total Warrior

"Look! Romans! Let's kill them!!"

Yeaaah! Lets!! Believe it or not, that's an actual quote in the game.

I'm suppose to work on my monthly report for this 4 day weekend and guess what i've been doing. ;P

It's been weeks and I've finally managed to beat this game. In no way this game is an accurate representation of Greek history and mythology....

The Romans, led by King Tiberius have sent his army to invade Sparta. You play as an unnamed Spartan warrior, only known as The Spartan; joined by 2 brothers Castor and Pollux to fend off the invading Romans.

Spartan: Total Warrior, a hack and slash PS2 game. It's something like Dynasty Warriors and Lord Of The Rings action game. Basically you just run around and just kill enemies. But guess what, it can have 150+ enemies on screen at the same time!! And the bodies won't disappear! Yeehaaa!

You start off with a normal shield sword combo and bow and arrows. As the game progresses, you get new weapons: twin blades, hammer etc. Each has its special magic ability.

Moves are quite simple. One button for hitting individual enemy and another for sweeping a bunch of them. When the rage button fills up, you can perform individual or sweeping rage moves.

Though it's a hack and slash game, some levels has some platform jumping elements, defending the front lines, protect/ and escort some VIP to safety, boss battles, and the most fun of all is kill all enemies. Romans are not the only enemy. Not to spoil it, but there are some others who are out for blood.

The graphics are pretty good. Though the character sprites are a bit rough around the edges, but the game makes up for its incredible epic battlefield and sheer number of enemies. Cool lighting effects which I can't remember what's it called. Unfortunately, no Full Motion Video cutscenes. All cutscenes are in-game graphic engine.

Music is nothing to shout about. Dance beat? What in Hades are they thinking??

The game can get very hard at some levels (Stupid Achimedes level!!). You most probably would die in your first mission, but the learning curve is easy.

Though some might find the game repetive, but IMO one of the best games I've played. Please make more Total Warrior games!!
